Our director, Dr Uzma Nooreen Maherally, exemplifies a profound commitment to education, underpinned by an impressive academic background and extensive professional experience. She earned a Doctor of Education (EdD) in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Cincinnati, USA, following a Master of Education (MEd) in Science Education from the University of Southern Queensland, Australia, and a Bachelor of Science (BSc) with Honors in Biology from the University of Mauritius. This strong educational foundation coupled with the passion for empowering students, has and continues to enable our director to make significant strides in the field of education.
Teaching
Dr Maherally has a teaching portfolio spanning various educational levels and disciplines. With experience at both undergraduate and graduate levels in the United States and Mauritius, she has imparted knowledge across a range of subjects, demonstrating a commitment to fostering academic excellence. Her teaching journey at the secondary school level in Mauritius further highlights her versatility and dedication to nurturing young minds.
Research & Curriculum Development
Beyond teaching, our director’s prior involvement in grant-funded research projects in the United States and Mauritius, has showcased her commitment to advancing knowledge in multiple academic areas, including science, social science, and STEM. Her prior contribution to curriculum development for a non-profit U.S. educational organization that provides a national website, further reflects her deep understanding of educational needs and her desire to innovate learning experiences for students.
Dr Maherally’s professional journey so far, highlights her multifaceted expertise as well as her determination to inspire and uplift others in the academic community. Through the creation of UNIM EduPro Consultancy Ltd, our director exemplifies a profound commitment to advancing education and building lasting positive impacts on students and their families. With her guidance, she hopes to instill confidence in students and pave the way for them to achieve boundless potential while pursuing their higher studies.
Academic Advising
With a rich background in academic advising at the international high school level, our director has forged impactful partnerships with university representatives across multiple countries, creating a bridge between students and diverse higher education opportunities. By organizing education fairs and career forums, Dr Maherally has provided invaluable resources for students navigating their future paths. While her dedication to assisting students through every phase of the university application process has transformed aspirations into reality, her leadership of a robust international school exchange program broadened students’ horizons and enriched the educational experience for all involved.
Academic Assessment
Our director also plays a major role in academic assessment through her extensive experience supervising the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) and Graduate Record Examination (GRE) in Mauritius. The SAT and the GRE, entrance exams at the undergraduate and graduate level respectively, are used by American universities to make admission decisions. Since 2015, she has overseen these critical examinations over 60 times and has trained new staff on several occasions in Mauritius and Seychelles, ensuring a smooth and fair testing process for students. Currently, our director and her team administer the SAT at the official test center, Lycée des Mascareignes in Helvetia, Moka, Mauritius.

Voluntary Work with U.S. Embassy Mauritius
Dr Maherally’s dedication to education extends beyond institutional boundaries, as demonstrated by her substantial voluntary work with the U.S. Embassy Mauritius since 2015. She is involved in delivering impactful presentations, both solo and in collaboration with different teams, on a variety of topics significant to U.S. higher education, contributing to programs such as EducationUSA outreach and workshops, EducationUSA Conference and College Fair, and International Education Week, which is a U.S. Department of State initiative. This active engagement underscores her commitment to promoting educational opportunities and supporting students in navigating the complexities of higher education. In addition to presentations, our director often assists the EducationUSA Adviser of the U.S. Embassy across various venues in Mauritius, Rodrigues, and Seychelles, participating in initiatives like the EducationUSA Scholars Program and the University & Career Expo. She also plays a key role in pre-departure orientations and Common App sessions, equipping students with the knowledge and resources necessary for their academic journeys in the USA. Her involvement in events like World Book Day organized by the U.S. Embassy further reflects her passion for fostering a love of learning within the community.
Other Voluntary Contributions
Dr Maherally’s previous voluntary contributions at the university level in Mauritius included serving as appeal marker, reviewing graduate level dissertations, participating on viva voce panels, and collaborating on online module content development for international organizations like the Commonwealth of Learning (COL), Canada, and the Global e-Schools and Communities Initiative (GESCI), Kenya. Her responsibility as judge and coach for the Science and Engineering Expo at the University of Cincinnati, USA, on a few occasions, further highlighted her commitment to nurturing the next generation of innovators.

Our director’s unwavering support of U.S. higher education originates from the award of a prestigious 100% tuition scholarship from the School of Education of the University of Cincinnati, USA, that enabled her to pursue her doctoral degree with focus and diligence, and contribute meaningfully to the field of education. Her doctoral journey was also marked by significant recognition, as evidenced by her nomination for the Golden Key International Honor Society, the world’s largest collegiate honor society that recognizes the top 15% of university students based on their academic achievements.
